the whirlpool

I recently added a comment to a friend's blog by stating the following:

"So, then, why don't you strive for those things your generation is seeking so you can be the voice for and to your generation?  I see you getting caught up in the cycle of traditionalism and its whirlpool is sucking you into the abyss of mediocrity.  Live like there is no tomorrow for you and your generation.  Live life to the hilt and make no apology for desiring God."

I think we all have a tendency to get caught up in the whirlpool of traditionalism.  Complacency and mediocrity are the two evils that have quenched the desire for growth and spiritual transformation in many churches throughout the American landscape.  Our comfort has become the standard to live by, as opposed to the battle for those who hurt and need a God who is real.

What is your whirlpool?  Is it sucking you into an abyss?  Do you need help swimming out of it?
